Blueberries. Something I have avoided my whole life. I'm not allergic to it, I don't hate it, I just don't like it. End of story. However, recently I've experienced a little something that changed my view of blueberries.
It was her birthday. We planned a spontaneous surprise for her. She brought a cake, candles, matches, and everyone of us together in front of her door. As we swung the door open, we started singing 'Happy Birthday' to her. She was pleasantly shocked and surprised, judging from her expression as blood rushed to her cheeks. It was a success. So simple, and yet so sweet.
After the singing, we barged into her room and we started giving out cakes. It looked like an ordinary chocolate cake to me, with the exception that it's full of wishes from her friends. May gave me a slice. I tasted it.
It was really sweet, with a hint of an ingredient that I'm not familiar with. Generally, when it comes to cakes, there are a few common flavours that come to mind. Chocolate, coffee, strawberry, mango, cheese are among the flavours that I remember for now. At that moment, I chose to enjoy the taste instead of asking around for the unknown ingredient.
Up until the very end, after almost everyone left, only when we were talking about the cake that I asked them about the ingredient. Everyone agreed that it was blueberries, even me. Isn't it strange ? I have never ever tasted blueberries my whole life, and yet, I was sure that it was blueberries.
Isn't that food for thought ? Maybe it's just me, maybe it's the birthday, maybe it's the birthday girl, maybe ....
